OUR DIVISIONS
The Department of Commerce has six divisions, each plays a key role in supporting the overall mission of the department which is centered around improving the quality of life for all in American Samoa.
ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
Administrative Services provides control, monitoring, and management of financial, personnel, payroll and fiscal resources of the department in accordance with American Samoa Government and Federal Financial and Labor Act Management guidelines, policies and procedures.
BUSINESS, INTERNATIONAL TRADE & INVESTMENT
BTI consists of four major subdivisions – Business Licensing, Business Enforcement, International Trade & Investments, and Development Finance. Their overall focus is to stimulate and diversify American Samoa’s economy by engaging and supporting both local and foreign business development, industrial recruitment, trade and business investments, as well as assisting our Territory’s private sector with any necessary ASG Boards and Commissions and current local economic issues.
REAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
Real Property Management
manages all ASG real estate except those under the control of the Port Administration, Parks & Recreation, and Administrative Services. A key real estate asset of ASG is the Tafuna Industrial Park (TIP), also known as the “Senator Daniel K. Inouye” Industrial Park. The TIP is a 325-acre lot which provides dedicated commercial space to support local businesses. RPM is located on Tasi Street in the Tafuna Housing area,
Urban Planning & Development (UPD) works to enhance the quality of life for present and future generation through sound economic development strategies and community planning. UPD consists of four sub-divisions: Community Development, Community Services, Territorial Planning and New industry Development. All UPD program work together to support and implement community projects that help improve the quality of living throughout the territory.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Resource Management is responsible for promoting management of our natural & cultural resources by conducting environmental reviews of land use activities, initiating participatory planning, enhancing & restoring special areas, & educating through public outreach to preserve the coastal zone. The Coastal Zone Management team leads this effort with support from our Geographic Information System (GIS) and Permitting & Zoning teams.
STATISTICS & ANALYSIS
Statistics & Analysis is responsible for the collection, mining, warehousing, dissemination, and analysis of critical data. Organized by the American Samoa Statistical Act of 2003, Statistics & Analysis supports the process to develop the Gross Domstic Product (GDP) of the territory, complie the Annual Statistical Yearbook, and conduct various surveys (Agriculture, Economic, Household Income & Expenditure Survey, Population).
