The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and IT branch of the Department of Commerce provides in-house technical support along with GIS data, maps, and expertise for the Department and for other government agencies.

GIS Users Group
Created by the GIS/IT branch is a GIS user group which includes eight various agencies: American Samoa Department of Commerce, American Samoa Historic Preservation Office, American Samoa Community College, Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources, American Samoa Power Authority, National Park of American Samoa, Oregon State University – Davey Jones Locker Lab, USDA Forest Service, Forest Health Protection, Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary, American Samoa Department of Public Works, American Samoa Telecommunications Authority, American Samoa EPA, and the Development Bank of American Samoa.

LiDAR mapping is an accepted method of generating precise and directly georeferenced spatial information about the shape and surface characteristics of the Earth
Digital Orthoimagery (DOI)
The 2012 American Samoa aerial photography project produced 1′ (.30m) GSD multispectral digital orthoimagery for approximately 85 square miles of the American Samoa islands of Tutuila, Aunu’u, Ofu, Olosega, and Ta’u
