Community goals in American Samoa encompass economic development, natural resource management and conservation. The achievement of these goals relies significantly on the availability of accurate statistical data and analyses. The array of indicators that enable the monitoring of progress in all its definitions is found in statistics. Sound statistics are important to ensuring policies in the Territory are better advised. At the Federal level, measurement of compliance with regulations and conditions is drawn from well-constructed data analyses. We work to provide the tools to answer questions that pertain to population, resource accessibility, consumer price index, feasibility of economic opportunities to name a few.
Research and Statistics Division is the epicenter of data collection, analyses and social research in the Territory. Acting on the American Samoa Statistical Act of 2003, the production of the annual Statistical Yearbook is one of this division’s elaborate projects. We collaborate with multiple agencies, departments, organizations and individuals to attain not only our division goals but also the overarching goals of the community.
